FUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Well it's been a long time since we've put up anything on here! Just having a look, doesn't look like we've said anything since announcing the iBar show at the end of September! that's a long fuckin' time!

So what's new? Well... we played that aforementioned iBar show. and it was fucking fantastic! the reaction we got was great and we completely packed out the venue. kinnie the explorer, the gentry underground and of course, the blackwater caravan were all brilliant and helped us so much! it was definitely a great way to end our 2010 (not bearing in mind our actual last show of 2010 which was at the winchester...).

so 2010 has been a great year for us. as we look into the future of 2011 and think about what the fuck we actually did in 2010, i can safely say that this has probably been the best year for the band. we started off with all but 2 songs erased from our memories and i'm very proud of the tunes we came up with in the few months afterwards. we've written a lot more this year, we're definitely getting more prolific as a band. i think in general we've just improved this year. anyways, we've done some wicked gigs, like the ibar show, and playing the main stage at endorse it (which was just mental tbh). supporting eighties matchbox was fun, they were nice guys too. playing the multiple shows with zac and kinnie have been great as well, just shows how much the bournemouth "indie" scene, if you will, has to offer and how much potential it has.

so what about 2011? well we're heading into the studio in february which we're all really excited about. we don't know how much we'll get done, hopefully a lot, but i'm just excited to be getting these songs cemented down for good and moving forward. we may come out with 10 tracks, maybe 4, who knows at this present moment? in terms of live performances, well i'm looking forward to what we can do this year. this is gonna mean that we are going to limit our performances however. we want people to make sure that they remember all the shows we do, rather than just certain ones. we want to put all of our effort into making the shows we do special and like no-one elses in the local scene, otherwise you might as well just go see someone else right?

so what can i announce? well firstly, we do have our first gig of 2011:

Friday Janaury 14th 2011 - Champions, 51 Norwich Aveneue, Bournemouth, BH2 6AN
Entry: £3 Doors: 7:30pm

with

Kinnie The Explorer
(www.myspace.com/kinnietheexplorer)

The Pretty Marx
(www.myspace.com/theprettymarx)

The Emerald Guard
(www.myspace.com/theemeraldguard)

Kiall Wheatley
(too good for myspace.... yeahaaaa)

so yeah come to that.
ALSO! before i forget. for a limited time only (well, until we record) we've got a special free download of The Basement Sessions available for you. Most downloads aren't that special, but this one comes with all the artwork ben did for this year. they've been used for posters, artwork, tomfoolerly etc, but we've added the unedited copies to the package for you to have. they make good wallpapers on pc's i've been told.

If you want the Basement Sessions Special pack, go here! themetropolise.bandcamp.com

so yeah, that's it for now. i will try to put more on here from now on, as otherwise this is just a waste of time. and even if it's just me reading it, at least i'm gonna have a good time

The Metropolise Headline Show

So we're really happy to announce that we're gonna be headlining the iBar in Bournemouth on the 19th of November. It's gonna be a fun gig and we're gonna have a lot of fun putting the show together, as well doing some special stuff with the venue. We've decided to make the price a very cheap 50p. This means you don't have any excuse to not show up! We haven't got a poster yet, but we will.

So who else is on the bill? Well, we've got a fucking awesome line-up which consists of a few of our friends and another band who are just fucking mental live.

ZAC HARRIS & THE BLACKWATER CARAVAN
(www.myspace.com/zacharris)

KINNIE THE EXPLORER
(www.myspace.com/kinnietheexplorer)

THE GENTRY UNDERGROUND
(www.myspace.com/thegentryunderground)

The show is gonna be 16+ and it's all kicking off at like 7:00pm.

Not only is there an awesome gig happening, but it's T-Moe's birthday, so we're throwing him a bitchin' party for when we've finished playing. He's booking some of the best DJ's around, and we're gonna get really fucking drunk so you might as well stay and party with us right? However, this will be 18+ sadly, so you might wanna get ID for this part of the event!

This show should be a lot of fun, we've been planning it for a few weeks and it's starting to sound really great. We're gonna have merch for sale, as well as a mailing list for you to sign up to. We're definitely showcasing some new tunes, and HOPEFULLY if things go to plan, we'll be heading into the studio to make a bitchin' EP.

Oh yeah, we're also playing The Winchester for Solid Air on the 4th of October. I think Zac's playing that one too, and it's free as always, so it should be a good night!

EDIT: So yeah, Ben made a poster and it's pretty hot so here it is for you all to enjoy.

Well...

It's been a while since we posted something on here. Erm, I think the last time actually was just after we had played Chords with Eighties Matchbox, which was fucking ages ago! So what's happened? Well we've all had a decent summer, we did some recordings and we rocked out at some festivals. Played some fun gigs and met some cool people in the process. Endorse It definitely being the highlight out of all of this (playing a main stage to about 1000 people with probably the best sound set-up we've ever experienced). Wimborne Folk Festival was pretty good as well, and we got a great reception there too!

So what have we got coming up? Well, we've said we're gonna take another little break to get some new material on the go. But we've got a gig on the 17th September with Kids Can't Fly. Should be a fun show, and we hope to see you down there. It's £4 adv. so if you want a ticket, then contact one of us in the usual way.

Oh yeah, and if you wanna download The Basement Sessions, then you can here: http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3LnpzaGFyZS5uZXQvZG93bmxvYWQvNzg1NjY3Nzc0NTA2Y2QxMA==. There's 3 tracks on there; Raise The Alarm, Shoot To Kill and Echoes. We've also been recording some acoustic tunes, which we hope to get out very very soon.

So we did something...

Here are some new demos for you to listen to. It's not the EP, but it's something right? We're gonna be going back into a studio in around a month or two to record all the rest of the songs, as well as some new ones. We've also got some acoustic tunes to finish with Zac so watch out for them as well.

Oh yeah, the download... right...

Not long until Endorse It! We may have a gig before then, but if that happens, we'll let you know!

Quick Video

So Eighties Matchbox on Saturday was a lot of fun! Thanks for everyone who came along to see us (it really does mean a lot!), and fucking hell... weren't 80s Matchbox amazing? Well I thought they were incredible...

Anyways, it's about 3 weeks on Friday 'til we play at this years Folk Festival, and we'll hopefully have a few more new songs in the set. We had a new new song on Saturday and it seemed to go pretty well, so hopefully it can go on from there!

This is a video of the rehearsal space we used to write the new set, and there's a couple of the new songs on there in their earliest stages (I fuck up on the first bit of Raise The Alarm... shameful!), so have a listen and also support the Basement as it is a great rehearsal space and Brian, the owner, is a lovely guy, and you can practise whilst drinking cream soda!

Review from Saturday

Never normally post these sort of things, but I thought it was a nice little review from the Bournemouth Gardens gig on Saturday.

"Bournemouth gardens was buzzing as an event organised under the name "The Takeover" meant local musicians were given an opportunity to play live in front of a reasonably large audience. One band in particular that stood out were "The Metropolise" an alternative indie band that look good and sound awesome. The band had been hyped up due to this being their comeback show and a preview of their new sound. Despite some sound problems the songs were up beat, dancey and perfect to tap your foot to. The band also communicated confidently with the audience making jokes and introducing their songs. I am looking forward to hearing the bands E.P which is due out soon and if you haven't seen them they have a gig with friend/musician Zac Harris on the 3rd of May at The Winchester."

Thank you to Stalky for that one.

1 down...

1 more to go before folk festival! yesterday was fun... not gonna go into how pissed off we were with the organisers, they probably thought we were a bunch of amateur pre-madonnas but whatever... was nice to see a lot of people there yesterday and best of all it was good to finally get these new songs out there after working hard and long on them. hope you're all digging them, and they will become a lot clearer to you at future shows. The Winchester show is may 3rd still, and we're still playing with Zac Harris and his band, along with two bands from Tokyo (sunset drive + natccu) and a london/bournemouth folk act under the name of oh dreamland. it's free entry and we'll be on kinda latish i'm guessing due to closing the show, which is cool.

thanks again everyone and hopefully see you soon

Blog #2

Hey everyone,

So the brand new set is coming along nicely. We went into the rehearsal room today and sorted it out, and I'm pleased to say it's almost there, with about 7/8 songs done. Our comeback show is on the 24th of April (which is a Saturday), so make sure you come along! If you're working, then book it off and have a lovely day out in Bournemouth Gardens instead! We're playing the Band Stand so hopefully the weather will stay nice and it won't be called off! James McVey is also playing so it should be a good day, he's got a full band with him as well so should be a nice little set.

Anyways, that's all for now,
Mike xz

Saturday 27 March 2010

So this is it...

Oh hey... Looks like you've found the Metropolise blog... Basically started this as it's a lot better for info than Facebook and I mean, who the fuck still uses Myspace? I sure as hell don't, and I'm pretty sure you don't either. When we get some information about a gig that we'll be playing at, or stuff for our upcoming EP, then we'll let you know on here! I don't really have too much to tell you about right now... we're still writing tunes and getting the set together as well as preparing for our upcoming recording sessions; it's all going well and we're all pretty happy with the stuff that's coming out at the moment so I'm hoping you guys will also like the new songs and embrace them into your lives. We do have a gig coming up actually, maybe I should plug that... It's in Bournemouth Gardens on the almighty bandstand! Imagine that... it's gonna be awesome, and it is on April 24th and we're playing at about 2pm, so if you're working then get it off and come see an awesome show!

Anyways, better finish it off as I'm probably rambling, so have a good rest of your weekend!
